Sid Wainer & Son, headquartered in New Bedford, MA, is the premier produce and specialty foods company in the food industry. Sid Wainer imports and exports specialty produce and food and is a national and international distributor. The company supplies 30,000 restaurants, retail outlets, food establishments, and culinary professionals daily, including the finest resorts, airlines, cruise lines, hotels and caterers around the world. Sid Wainer is the first HACCP certified produce company in the United State (HACCP is a management system in which food safety is addressed through the analysis and control of biological, chemical, and physical hazards from raw material production, procurement and handling, to manufacturing, distribution and consumption of the finished product).
The Challenge
In 2014, the company purchased a 50-year-old warehouse in Wareham, MA for the purpose of converting it into modern processing facility for locally grown fruits and vegetables. After years of successful flooring projects Pristine Surfaces was selected to design and install 27K sq.ft. of flooring systems.
The company required a flooring solution to fit the following criteria: 1.) It must be strong and durable enough to stand up to forklifts and pallet jacks. 2.) Floors must be Seamless, Safe, and Sanitary to conform to the high safety and sanitary standards of its HACCP certification. 3.) Floors must be colorful in order to enhance the facility appearance so that present and future customers could tour the facility.
The Solution
Pristine Surfaces recommended a Chemical resistant Seamless, Safe, Sanitary Polycrete flooring solution. We developed a Project plan with the Owners to repair and replace damaged concrete. We developed a map of where drains should be installed and outlined areas where concrete should be sloped to ensure proper drainage. New drains and refrigeration were installed and walls were built.
The Result
Pristine Surfaces helped convert an abandoned warehouse into a state-of-the-art facility with high-impact visual appeal. The floor meets all the HACCP requirements for food production companies and trucks numbering in the hundreds load up daily to make their trips—.some as far as Washington, DC. The color green was selected as a symbol of nature’s way of constantly replenishing Earths most natural sustenance. Our contact was promoted to Vice President of Operations as appreciation for a job well done—and Pristine continues to be the vendor of choice for all their flooring needs.
